Honda: 50 years in Canada!

Honda Canada was founded on March 11, 1969, more than 50 years ago. A full year of anniversary activities are planned to celebrate this important milestone.

First known as a network of motorcycle and power equipment dealers, Honda captured the hearts of Canadians as early as 1973 with its Civic, Canada’s best-selling passenger car for the past 21 consecutive years! Clearly, the company has been able to adapt to the needs of the market—Honda has sold more than 4 million vehicles since arriving in Canada.

Honda is now a major Canadian manufacturer with more than 8 million cars and light trucks built here, 19,000 associates employed across the country, 600 dealers, more than $4.7 billion invested in Canada, and $2.1 billion in goods and services sourced from Canadian suppliers each year.

Honda also stands out in terms of the environment. The Honda Insight was North America’s first gasoline-electric hybrid in 2000. The company set a new environmental standard for auto manufacturers in 1998 by achieving ISO 14001 manufacturing certification. Honda showed its commitment to the environment with its zero-waste-to-landfill manufacturing, engines built from 100% recycled materials, LEED certification and improved carbon footprint.

That’s not to mention Honda as an exemplary corporate citizen. More than 6 million people have benefited from programs funded by Honda Canada and the Honda Canada Foundation. Since it was established in 2005, the foundation contributes more than $2 million to local charities each year.
